This is a photographic print of the painting. Its’ title is “Filibuster of the Maternal Forebearer”

http://www.etsy.com/listing/89644156/print-from-painting-of-president-obama

I showed this painting to over 3,000 people over the course of two days during December. The feedback was nearly unanimous, almost everyone loved the painting. It was a very diverse crowd of people that viewed the work, from all socioeconomic, and political backgrounds.

None of the artwork that you will see on my website, adamwellborn.com , will look anything like this. Many people ask why I painted this. A partial answer is because I was injured in October, and could not continue my very heavy paintings that I have been showing for the last three years. Another influence was all the artwork that was generated around the President’s campaign.

I did a lot of study on icons throughout my college years. I also studied many paintings of “great people”. Some of the subjects seem worthy of paintings, some have been tyrants. For example, there have been portraits created of nearly every US President. There were also very elaborate artworks created of Saddam Hussein, in his country. These portraits remove these individuals from the realm of being human, and turn them into Icons. This has always struck me as strange.

When I threw out my Television over a year and a half ago, I thought I would rid myself of an overbearing media. I couldn’t have been more wrong. It is impossible to escape what our US media outlets deem newsworthy. Even worse, is what the general public thinks sacred. So many people just keep getting placed higher and higher on pedestals all the time. So I decided to bring the Icons back to life. Maybe strip them of any life advantages and place them in an ordinary humans’ life.

I started this new body of work with this painting. And although Obama hasn’t seemed to have had the monetary advantages of our previous President, he certainly had some serious parenting from his late mother. It seems she helped pour the foundation that he built his career on. I don’t mean to criticize anyone who I paint in this series. I only mean to look at them in a different way, and maybe breath a little humanity back into them. For some, it will be harder than others. And while the word Iconoclast has been reserved mainly for tearing down religious icons, I think it works very well within Pop Culture. This painting is the first of my Iconoclast Series.

expect fairly regular posts, that if nothing else, will have images of my current paintings

So, for a couple of years now, I have been making blog entries for clients. Setting up blogs, teaching people how to use them, even creating ridiculously simple ways for people to fire off posts for the most convenient places (toilets included). However, recently, I have been asked to be more visible to people on the web. Those who know me, know my reluctance to ever creating this website in the first place. Honestly, it’s not a great design, but that’s not why I hesitated.

About the artwork on this site; What you will see here are photos of paintings. They are basically 3-D. Each painting exists in multiple layers of epoxy resin. They cannot be viewed fairly on the web. 100 percent of people that see them in person, after seeing them on the web, say they would have never expected them to be so “deep”, or “thick” with so many “layers”. Hence the reason behind not wanting to display them on the web. It came about after I was asked, and sometimes told to get a website. So here it is, in all its’ inadequate glory.

No worries though. I am currently developing a completely new body of work. I have been working in layers, with resin, since the fall of 2004. It’s time for a break. Not to mention, everybody in Atlanta seems to be taking a stab at resin right now, and I’m not seeing anything new and creative-just “monkey see, monkey do”-Blek.

With all this said, I figure from the response I’m getting, that it is time to start the blog and add more pages to this site. There may even be a complete redesign here in the near future. In the mean time, expect fairly regular posts, that if nothing else, will have images of my current paintings.
